What's New in 26.2

Version 26.2 is coming. It finds the positions in a swing for you, keeps the club in frame, and puts the numbers you coach from where you can see them.

Automatic swing phase detection

Golf swing phase detection finds the key positions in a golf swing and places the markers itself. It is new in 26.2 and included as standard.

Start of Take Away, Top of Swing, Impact and the rest are placed for you. It works on a golf swing recording with motion capture data from a camera tagged as a face-on angle. With a usable club track it places up to ten positions (P1 to P10). Without one it estimates three of them (P1, P4 and P7) from body pose, and Detect all swing phases analyzes the video again to try to place the rest. It can also find nothing usable in a clip. The article lists the messages it shows and what to do about each.

Recordings you made before phase detection existed, or where you moved the markers by hand, are covered separately in the article.

Phase detection for jumps, pulls and pitching

Force graph phases now lists the force plate activities whose markers are detected from force data: countermovement jump, squat jump, drop jump, repeated hops, isometric mid-thigh pull and ski jump. Baseball pitching markers are detected from motion capture: see Baseball pitching .

Ski jump detection is standard. The other activities need a license that includes automatic phase detection.

Clearer marker states

What are markers? covers the new controls. Each recording’s markers are labeled Phases detected, Edited by you, Set manually, Placeholder markers or No phases found. A detect button applies or redoes detection. The first time detected markers replace markers you placed yourself, the software saves the earlier markers, and Restore my earlier markers brings them back. Corrections you make after that are not saved this way: see the warning about corrections . The detected markers are applied first. Settings > General > Phase detection decides whether a banner then asks you to keep them or restore your own.

Key metrics measured on placeholder markers now read No data instead of a number taken from preset times.

Auto-framing with the club in view

Auto-framing zooms the video in on the athlete automatically. Version 26.2 adds a second mode.

Subject + objects keeps the athlete and the swung implement in frame together, so the club stays visible from address to follow-through. It is the default when you turn auto-framing on.

Subject frames the athlete alone, for when you want them as large as possible.

The Key Metrics column

The Key Metrics column puts five or six numbers of your choosing in a column between the video and the data boxes, where they stay in view as you move between swings and students.

You choose the metrics once and can save your own sets. It switches on per view mode, from a checkbox in the Layout menu. Needs a license that includes the column.

On-demand motion capture components

Optional features . From 26.2 the motion capture models and the GPU acceleration files are no longer in the installer. You download them once from inside the app, on the Optional Features settings page.

If you use motion capture, expect a one-time download after upgrading.

The changelog will list every change once 26.2 is released.
